Go Beyond Lessons — Play, Jam, and Connect

These programs are built for students who want more than a weekly lesson. They want to sit down and actually play music with other people, and we’ll get you there.

Jazz & Blues Lessons (Guitar, Bass & Drums)

Our jazz and blues lessons offer a structured path for students ready to dive deeper into the music. We guide you to build improvisation skills and musical awareness, helping you move past basic patterns so you can play freely, expressively, and with true confidence.

Our jam sessions provide the opportunity to play alongside other musicians in a structured, fully supported setting. Rather than practicing alone, you will learn to listen, adapt, and connect musically, gaining the confidence and real-world experience of playing seamlessly within a group.

What Sets Us Apart For South Phoenix Students

All music lessons start with good intentions, but without the right structure and support, it’s easy to feel stuck, lose momentum, or wonder whether you’re actually improving. We take a different approach, built around real structure, steady progress, and instructors who meet you where you are. Whether you’re a parent looking for the right fit for your child or an adult coming back to an instrument, you’ll know just where you stand and what is next.

Teachers Who Meet You Where You Are

Our instructors take the time to understand what you or your child actually want out of lessons, whether that’s a strong foundation, a song you’ve always wanted to play, or the confidence to sit in with other people. We build a plan around your specific goals instead of a one-size-fits-all curriculum, so every lesson moves you closer to something real.

A Structured Approach That Leads To Real Progress

Every student follows a clear path designed to build skills in order. Instead of jumping between random songs and concepts, students develop musical ability they can use and keep building on, so progress is something you can see and hear, week after week.

A Community That Keeps You Motivated

Learning music is easier and a good deal more enjoyable when you’re not doing it alone. Our students connect, collaborate, and grow alongside other musicians through classes, workshops, and jam sessions, which keeps them engaged well past the first few months.

A Supportive Space For Beginners And Returning Players

We create an environment where students feel comfortable learning at their own pace, asking questions, and building confidence over time. Whether you’re a parent looking for the right fit for your child or an adult getting back into music, we focus on making the experience positive, structured, and sustainable.

Our Client Testimonials

New guitar player. Was trying to learn on my own and not getting very far. I was in Phoenix for a couple of months. Arranged lessons here. After two months with Tristin I am reading basic tablature, playing the common chords and simple versions of popular songs from Radio Head, Nora Jones, the Cranberries, Tom Petty … Tristin is a terrific teacher. Lessons were fun and flew by. He and Matt (who owns the studio) set up a very doable lesson plan.

Our son has been taking piano lessons since January 2018. Ms. Sherin has a unique talent for teaching her students self-discipline while instilling a long lasting love of music. … Matt is a multi-talented musician proficient in Drums, Bass, and Guitar. He is a very patient person. My wife takes lessons from him and prior to starting at MLA she hadn’t picked up a new instrument in over 20 years. He has given her confidence and skills she never had before. There are monthly jam sessions where students of all ages get to collaborate and enjoy popular songs together from multiple genres.

Matt is truly an exceptional teacher. He pairs his deep expertise and experience with an incredible and personal teaching style. Not only is he remarkably patient, but he also knows exactly how to break down complex concepts into digestible, easy-to-learn chunks: I can't tell you how many times he's patiently broken down a riff or concept, helping me finally get it under my fingers. I cannot say enough good things about Matt and his school. If you are looking to learn guitar, drums, or bass, Matt and Music Lessons Arizona should be your first choice!

I started taking guitar lessons this year as part of my 2025 goal to finally learn how to play a full song … From day one, Matt tailored my lessons to fit my goals, learning style, and musical interests. My instructor, Payton, has been absolutely incredible. They structured each class in a way that made learning feel natural and exciting … breaking things down step-by-step so that every week felt like real progress. … One of the best parts of this school is that Matt also organizes music jam sessions for students. Getting the chance to play alongside others at all different levels has been such a unique and inspiring experience. It helped build my confidence and made learning even more enjoyable.

I have been taking drum lessons with Alex at Music Lessons Arizona as an adult beginner and I have all good things to say about this studio! Super friendly staff and ownership, easy communication, and always accommodating of any type of rescheduling needs. Most importantly, I am learning fast and having fun as I go. I plan to enroll my daughters here as soon as they are ready for music lessons.

These instructors really care about the kids in my boy's class. Really glad we found this.

When my daughter began to show interest in the family’s piano, I immediately went looking for formal instruction from a professional who knew how to properly structure a curriculum for a complete beginner of her age. … MLA helped to build her confidence by slowly introducing musical concepts and playing techniques in bite-sized chunks. She was never overwhelmed or dissuaded by what she could not do, but rather encouraged by what she could play and the strides she was making weekly. In the brief time that she has been attending lessons, she went from completely uninitiated to knowing elements of music theory, such as the musical alphabet which forms each octave…

Music Lessons Arizona is a wonderful place to learn music. I took 1:1 lessons for a time, and my daughter is in one of the montessori style group classes. We’ve both had a great experience. Sherin, the owner, is welcoming and has done much to create a musical community amongst her students. It’s clear she cares a lot about musical education. I’d highly recommend this business for children and adults.
